Client Work ★ 2022-2025

Enabling researchers to upload and review large datasets while maintaining complex, role-based security and distribution guidelines.

Overview

Role: UI Designer

UX Research

Summary: Design a website to provide users conducting scientific experiments with a way to upload and review large datasets

Services: User Research

User Interface Design

Timeline: Provided continuous, embedded UX support for a touchscreen product over four years

Format: Web-based Desktop Tool

Researchers needed a more efficient way to upload, organize, and review large experimental datasets. Existing workflows and tools made it difficult to access and analyze data quickly, slowing research and increasing the effort required to manage mission critical laser research.

Problem

Guided by human-centered design principles, the product was shaped through user research, workflow analysis, and iterative prototyping to support the lifecycle of laser data. The research mapped end-to-end data validation and ownership transfer workflows, simplified security distribution labeling, and improved the information architecture for uploading, reviewing, and managing large datasets.

Solution

Improved the efficiency and reliability of large-scale scientific data workflows by designing a secure, role-based platform for dataset upload and review. The solution reduced friction in navigating complex security distribution guidelines, clarified data ownership and transfer states, and defined validation workflows, enabling researchers to access and manage data with greater speed, accuracy, and compliance adherence.
